I now have some idea what life must be like for Gentoo users. Coming to OS X from Linux, I was very keen to get all my command line apps back and very rapidly installed Fink; a port of Debian's apt for OS X. Fink is a great piece of kit and I would recommend any Apple power user grabs a copy. However, for some strange reason it seems to have decided that I want to compile all the apps myself rather than grabbing the binary and is taking an age! While I appreciate that there may be some advantages of compiling an entire OS from source, someone would have to give me a bloody good reason, given the time just a few apps are taking...
